The annual singles
competition

It was a darts night final

which had just about everything : class, controversy and a final that tested the nerves of two of the best players in Lyon. The evening started off in disappointing fashion when one of the pre-tournament favourites Greg was unable to turn up until an hour after the start only to find that he had been replaced by stand-in Finbarr.

The semi-finals were fought over five sets. Finbarr found himself up against a determined Eamonn who gave away nothing to take the match 3 – 0. In the other match, landlord Peter surprised everyone, himself included, to steal into a 2 – 0 lead against Keiran. Keiran then produced some of the best throws of the night including a maximum 180 to take three consecutive legs.

In the final there was never more than a single game between the two. With the score at 4 – 4, Keiran fired ahead and two bad throws from Eamonn gave him the chance to seal victory with a double which he did with his first ‘arrow’.

Keiran won a bottle of champagne and a magnificent trophy which he will defend next year. Peter pipped Finbarr for third spot.

Richard returned to the Albion in devastating form after persuading Greg to ditch long-time partner Dave, and play with him instead. Dave was forced to accept that there would be no big checkout with crooner Martin. Only Renauld and Henriqué took a leg off them in the group stages. In the other half of the draw, Janis and Fabien were also unbeaten. However it seemed that they had peaked too early when they lost to Renaud and Henriqué in the semis. Buc and Raphael also performed
well and gave Richard and Greg a fright in
the semis but eventually took third spot. In the final the favourites showed no mercy and ran out 3 - 0 winners to take a bottle of bubbly. Renauld, partner of Laurence took a magnificent designer watch for the highest checkout of 51. At the other end of the scale, Stephan and Violaine took home the old Albion dartboard in the losers final. Their task was made easier when Hubert retired home ill leaving Tony to play alone. Tony had been drinking for four hours and had to be pointed in the right direction! Janis won two designer belts for the best female
performance of the night.
